God always provides what we need. And often what we need most is simply to be reminded of the truth. How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!

God faithfully uses farm life and motherhood to teach me, to make known His lavish grace. Through seeds and soil, cultivating land and lives, He meets me here again and again. It’s holy ground.

I’m sowing seeds alongside my grace girl when it begins to sprinkle (we call it bug-spittin’ around here).

Excitedly, she says, “It’s starting to rain! That’s so good, because it will help our seeds to grow. God always provides what we need!”

My grace girl didn’t know that I needed to hear those words; that my heart had been wrestling with something hard; that while it was the soft earth we were turning with the end of the shovel and tiny seeds we covered over with dirty fingers, it was really my heart that needed turning and softening, wounds that needed covering over. Oh, Jesus. That’s the business He’s in. The way He started it all, back in a garden with some broken up dust. He bent down low, scooping up handfuls of dirt to form, shape, re-shape. And then, He leaned in even closer to breathe life.

The details, the intimacy, the messy and beautiful…He spoke all of creation into existence, but when it came to humankind, He said, “Let us make…” and He bent down low and got His hands dirty. (Genesis 1:26, 2:7)

Provision

I ponder the image, rolling my grace girl’s words over in my mind. Provision. He always provides what we need. He sees to the details. And what I needed most in that moment were God-breathed, life-giving words spoken by my daughter.

Grace girl pauses for a moment before continuing. Then, ”Mama, I wish everyone in the world could have heard me say that just now. Then everyone would believe! That’s what I’m going to do when I grow up — I’m going to tell everyone, and help them believe.”

“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

Romans 10:13-15

Yes, my girl, yes. You’re already doing it. And once again I get to share with my girl the greatest story ever told, the good news, the gospel of grace and truth.

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him. John 3:16-17

Keep sowing seeds

I hear the whisper of His Spirit in mine, “Keep sowing seeds, dear one, keep sowing seeds.

And a teary-eyed mama and her grace girl finish sowing seeds down the row.

Prayer:

Thank You, Father, for your faithful provision. Thank You for childlike faith that speaks life to my heart. You are the God who leans in, who enters our broken and messy and fashions beauty from ashes. You are in the details. Give me a heart like Yours, leaning in, speaking life, sowing seeds in hurting hearts. Because You bend down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath! (Psalm 116:2)
