I came to this subheading in a book I’ve been reading:
“The Inexhaustible God and the Freedom of Grace”
Relief washed over me like a soothing salve for my soul as I read those words. I know my God is inexhaustible. I have experienced the freedom of His grace. And yet, I am forgetful. I revert back to my former way of thinking as quickly as my coffee grows cold in my cup on a busy morning with my children. I can limp along on microwave coffee for a time, but what I really need is to steep in the full-bodied ever-present reality of His grace.
As I was reminded of the truth that God is inexhaustible, I felt both the physical and emotional effects of a weight lifted off my weary heart. I felt exhausted. But, my God is inexhaustible! He is a safe place to rest, a refuge for my soul like none other.
Perhaps you are forgetful like me. Perhaps you feel exhausted, too. You’re not alone, dear one. Allow me to spur you on with a few reminders from scripture:
Isaiah 40:28-31
“Do you not know? Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the whole earth.
He never becomes faint or weary;
there is no limit to His understanding.
He gives strength to the faint
And strengthens the powerless…
Those who trust in the Lord
will renew their strength;
They will soar on wings like eagles;
They will run and not become weary,
They will walk and not faint.”
Philippians 4:19, Ephesians 2:7 and 3:8
The best part? His incalculable, immeasurable, inexhaustible grace is free! Let His soothing words wash over you.
When you find yourself weary and exhausted, remind your heart once again to keep entrusting yourself to our faithful, everlasting Creator, (1 Peter 4:19). Approach the throne of grace with boldness, ready to receive mercy and grace to help in your time of need, (Hebrews 4:16).
